Due to COVID-19, the number of people that donate blood has lessened. Red Cross has experienced a 10% decline in the number of people donating blood since the beginning of the pandemic. As such, on January 11, 2022, Red Cross declared its first-ever blood crisis. Every 2 seconds in the U.S. someone needs bloodand/or platelets. However, due to this shortage, doctors are now needed to make difficult decisions in choosing which patient is “eligible” to receive blood from donors. This has led to the loss of many lives that could’ve been saved. All types of blood are needed, especially O and O negative. Through this project, we will hopefully be able to lessen the burden Red Cross is currently bearing.
