Kid2Kid Reading Volunteer Project by Risha Chepuri

3) Description of project:

Record your audio as you read children’s books, and publish your recording on this website for children all over the world to listen to. Many audiobooks today are read by adults, which are harder for children to listen to, so we need you to help us. Kids are helping other kids! Your voice will not only help children develop intellectually, but also provide company to many who are isolated due to the pandemic. This project will be in English only but can also be shifted into other languages as we grow.

4) Guidelines of how to do it, instructions and requirements to follow.

  1. You will need a Google account.

  2. Select 1 book from the booklist on the website that you already have access to (either online or paper copy);

  3. In 24 hours, you will receive an email for confirmation.

  4. Once confirmed, take a picture of the book’s front cover, then make recording(s) in .M4A file format. Please keep each file under 30 minutes duration. On a Macbook, you can use QuickTime Player; on Windows 10, you can use Video Recorder; on a Chromebook, you can get a free online "Voice Recorder" from the Google PlayStore.

  5. Make sure your recording is accurate according to the book, and do NOT include your personal identifier information in the files to protect your own privacy;

  6. Upload the file(s) to your Google drive, and share the file(s) with “Anyone with the link”;

  7. Reply to the confirmation email with the attachment of the picture of the book’s front cover and send the Google drive link(s).

  8. Once we receive your recording(s), we will publish your recording(s) on the website.

If individuals also want to lead their own projects, they can help to shift our website to a more children-friendly website, or they help expand our project to include different languages. Currently, this project only allows for English audiobooks, but we would love to have participation from many different languages. If participants want their own team, they could create a certain section within Kid2Kid Reading for certain languages, for example, such as Kid2Kid Reading: Chinese Books.

As the project lead, I will make sure to review and finalize the mp4 contributions of participants, as well managing any problems that could come up.
