In April of 2020, Compassionate Scholars hosted a PPE equipment fundraiser to aid healthcare professionals at the frontlines amid the COVID-19 pandemic. As PPE supplies were running exponentially low for healthcare workers, we decided to come together and reach out to the community and gather PPE supplies to donate to our local hospitals in order to keep our healthcare workers safe. It was an emotionally stressful time for people all around the country, and we hoped that our donations would help the healthcare workers feel safe. It took great effort to purchase masks, but in the end, under the supervision of Compassionate Scholars Director Aileen Cheung, we were able to donate to six hospitals:
Garfield Hospital NICU
Garfield Hospital ER
Keck USC Float Pool ICU
Greater El Monte Community Hospital Medical Surgical Telemetry Unit
Dockweiler Beach Isolation Unit Los Angeles County Department of Health Services
Kaiser Permanente

Lending a Hand to susceptible people
In May 2020, an active member of Compassionate
Scholar student committee, Ethan Mo, led the Covid Lend a Hand Mask Donation
project to aid the groups that were most prone to the virus and were not
receiving as much relief materials during this global pandemic. As African
Americans, Hispanics, elderly citizens and the homeless were the four groups
most prone to contraction, his donations were centered around the Monterey Park
area and downtown, which contained a large population of those vulnerable
groups. It truly was humbling to be able to receive supporters to this project;
however, under the guidance of Compassionate Scholar Director Aileen Cheung, he
is able to gather donations and donate to six centers:
Garfield Medical Center
Hollywood Food Coalition
Homeless Health Care Los Angeles
Union Station Pasadena
Golden Age Village
Optimist Youth Homes & Family Services
